Stepping into the fast-growing electric car market, BYD Auto, a Shenzen-based Chinese carmaker, has launched its e6 electric MPV at a starting price of Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model will be available in the B2B market and can be bought with or without a 7kW charger. The selling price increases to Rs 29.60 lakh (ex-showroom) in case one purchases the vehicle with the aforementioned charger. At the moment, BYDs local subsidiary will sell the e6 electric MPV through its limited dealership network that has outlets in Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kochi.

Speaking on the launch of the BYD e6 electric MPV, Shrirang Joshi, Sales Head- Electric Passenger Vehicle, BYD India Private Limited said, We are extremely happy to finally bring our globally tested All-New e6 to the Indian market. Focusing on safety, reliability, interior space as well as economic viability, we feel that the All-New e6 will be a hit in the Indian B2B market. We have also focused on improving the driving experience with some of the best-in-class features both in terms of driving comfort and interior features. The total cost of ownership will tremendously benefit our customers and the segment, overall. Thrilled to be a part of Indias EV revolution, we will roll out more product ranges in the future.
Powering the recently launched BYD e6 electric MPV is a 71.7 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate battery that helps the user with a maximum possible driving of 520 km in the WLTP cycle and 415 km as per ARAI tests. The electric motor offers an instantaneous torque of 180 Nm and is sufficiently potent to propel the new model to a top speed of 209 kmph. BYD India goes on to claim that the battery with which the e6 comes equipped will resolve all battery safety-related issues, thereby improving the overall safety standards of the EV market.

As per the carmaker, the BYD e6 supports both AC and DC fast charging. The latter allows the user to replenish the battery from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in just 35 minutes but the company is yet to reveal the time it would take to charge the car completely through an AC charger. The BYD e6 is suspended by MacPherson strut setup up front and a multilink suspension at the rear. Braking is courtesy of Bosch IPB intelligent brake control system that allows quick and linear braking. The new model has gone on sale with a 3 years/1.25 lakh km (whichever comes first) vehicle warranty along with an 8 years/5 lakh km (whichever comes first) warranty on the battery and an 8 years/1.5 lakh km warranty for the traction motor.
