While we are all aware of the off-road capabilities of Mahindra Thar as well as the Force Gurkha, what we don't know yet is how they will perform in a drag race. Yes, a drag race is not the first thing that comes to the mind of off-roaders, still, watching these two mighty SUVs compete against each other in a drag race is fun.
In this video by Car Mall, the two drivers drive both these SUVs turn by turn and showcase which one is capable on the road. Both these SUVs are different in terms of power, torque, design and kerb weight. The vlogger further explains that this drag race is done on a completely empty road and all the safety precautions have been taken care of.
Mechanically, Mahindra Thar gets a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine. Here, it produces 130 bhp at 3750 RPM with a peak torque of 300 Nm at 1600 RPM. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed AT. The Thar used in this video is a 6-speed manual one.
On the other hand, Force Gurkha gets a bigger 2.6-litre, turbocharged diesel engine but the power, as well as torque figures, are less when compared with the Thar. This unit churns out 90 bhp at 3200 RPM with a maximum torque of 250 Nm from as low as 1400 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed stick shift only.
As can be seen in the video, in the first round, the vlogger drives the Thar whereas his friend is in the Force Gurkha. The initial pick-up was attained by Gurkha for just a few seconds but then the Thar took the leap because of its 130 bhp of power and 300 Nm of peak torque under the hood.
The vlogger then exchanged the cars and now drove the Gurkha and took off a little early than the start. However, even with this as an advantage, Thar beat the Gurkha again. Similarly, for the third round, Mahindra Thar won the drag race against the Force Gurkha easily.
Like we said above, when these SUVs are compared, a drag race might be the last thing that comes to the minds of off-roaders. These SUVs are not meant for drag racing but for tackling serious off-roading patches where the skill of the driver and the true capability of the SUV is shown.
