1 Maruti Swift - 19,393 Units
As it comes without any surprises, the Maruti Swift leads the sales chart with over 19000 units sold in May 2024. Entering its fourth generation, the Maruti Swift now comes with a new Z-Series 1.2 litre 3-cylinder engine that puts out 82 PS power with a peak torque of 112 Nm. While this is a slight drop in power figures, the improved mileage figures make up for it.
2 Tata Punch - 18,949 Units
Tata Punch SUV is now a close second at 18,949 units sold in May 2024. Snatching spots from the previously ruling cars, Tata Punch has just scored the highest crash test score in the Bharat NCAP test ratings. Not to say, the Punch scored 5-stars and also has an electric version.
3. Maruti Dzire - 16,061 Units
Maruti Dzire with its 16,061 units sold in May 2024 is the only sedan in the top 10 cars of May 2024. This stems from the already high-selling Swift lineage courtesy of its great mileage, low maintenance, and easy availability of parts. Moreover, based on the fourth-gen Swift, Maruti Dzire is gearing up for its next-gen soon as the same has been spied on multiple occasions.
4. Hyundai Creta - 14,662 Units
With the Hyundai Creta facelift launched, the demand for the SUV has increased even more with the updates and refreshed facia. While the Hyundai Creta now comes with radical updates in terms of design and features, the dashboard and the center console have been redesigned as well. It ends up at fourth place with 14,662 units.
5. Maruti WagonR - 14,492 Units
Maruti WagonR hatchback has remained in the top spots for quite sometime now. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki has managed to grab a major chunk of top-selling cars with its models returning greater mileage and easier maintenance. It offers basic features and is a mass popular hatchback due to its roomy cabin space.
6. Maruti Brezza - 14,186 Units
Trailing at the 6th spot, Maruti Brezza holds the fort for Maruti with 14,168 units rolled out in May. This sub-4-meter SUV is the highest selling in its segment where it is challenged fiercely by the likes of Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and the newly launched Mahindra XUV 3XO.
7. Maruti Ertiga - 13,893 Units
Maruti Ertiga is an entry-level MPV from Maruti which has managed to stick to the 7th spot with 13,893 units. If you compare it with the Maruti Brezza, they both sell in almost the same range, which is a testament of the solid mass appeal that Ertiga has managed to amass owing to its price-to-value proposition.
8. Mahindra Scorpio - 13,717 Units
Even after a rich sibling in the guise of Mahindra Scorpio N has been introduced for quite some time now, the Scorpio Classic remains true to its name as a classic icon. While the top selling cars have the Classic Scorpio instead of the Scorpio N, says everything about how much people love this rugged status symbol of power and authority.
9. Maruti Baleno - 12,842 Units
The premium hatchback segment has one king and it is the Maruti Baleno. With its premium looks, a rich set of features, and a refined engine, the Baleno takes the eighth spot with 12,842 units. While it is mainly challenged by the Hyundai i20, the Maruti Fronx, which is based on the Baleno itself comes out as another cross-segment rival. This is in fact proven by the 10th spot in this list and you don't get any points for guessing this one.
10. Maruti Fronx - 12,681 Units
Close shave with the Baleno, this Baleno-based compact SUV, Maruti Fronx is in a race to beat its inspiration with a difference of a mere 161 units. The Fronx apart from all the other bells and whistles, more ground clearance, and whatnot, offers a 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine that sits well with the enthusiasts. While it rivals the likes of Kia Sonet, Brezza, and others, it is now the fastest in India to clock 1,00,000 sales since its launch.
