2023 Maruti Fronx CNG - Details
The spied test car was seen in Pune with emission testing equipment. Meanwhile, the possibility of this being RDE emission testing is less. Why so? Because Maruti is going to change its petrol engine lineup to accommodate the new RDE norms. This car, right here, is on a CNG bi-fuel test run. As the Fronx shares its underpinnings with Baleno, the CNG variant will be easy to develop. As far as what we suspect, Maruti will offer a CNG option with the 1.2-lt engine only. The boosterjet 1.0-lt shall not get the CNG option. Additionally, it will only be available with a 5-speed gearbox.
Other than this, Maruti shall also fit its CNG tech like auto switch between petrol & CNG, intelligent injection system, etc. Moreover, the suspension shall also be re-tuned to accommodate the increased weight due to CNG parts. We're also expecting that upon its debut, Fronx CNG might become the most fuel-efficient CNG car in India. However, this only time will tell. Maruti has launched most of its products with CNG options. Additionally, the CNG options are available right from the base to the top variants. Hence, the Fronx CNG will also get a similar variant distribution.
Verdict
Maruti Fronx is a beautiful combination of a hatchback & an SUV. All thanks to its platform sharing with Baleno, it is also available in multiple engine & transmission options. However, its launch is due around April'23. The expected price of Fronx is Rs 8 -13 lakh. Meanwhile, the CNG variants of Fronx shall debut by the end of 2023 (as expected by us). Its main rivals in India are the Hyundai i20 & Tata Altroz.
