Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door 7-seater SUV is likely to make its Indian debut by the first half of next year. It will be offered in petrol engine & 4X4 option.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV was firstly showcased in India back at the 2020 Auto Expo. The showcase of lightweight Jimny interested more than expected queries. While the company sells the Jimny internationally, the SUV-crazy India still waiting for the car to launch. Nevertheless, the wait seems to be nearing its end. The exclusive news is that Maruti is preparing the launch of Jimny in India by the next year.

While the Jimny is sold as a 5-seater or a 3-door variant globally, the 5-door version is being developed for the Indian market specifically. As the main competition remains with the Mahindra Thar, Maruti does not want to miss the opportunity in anyways. Thar being a 3-door SUV has limits over its practicality. To cater the practical buyers who are concerned about fuel economy as well, the 5-door variant will become a good choice.
Maruti is out of the diesel engine production game. While the rivals keep offering the diesel powertrain, upcoming Jimny will focus on the petrol engine. Expect the 1.5-Lt K15C motor to find its way along with the car. This produces a peak power of 102 hp & 138 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes with a 5-speed manual & a 6-speed automatic gearbox globally. The 4X4 option will be offered over the top-end trims while RWD will find its way in the standard variants.

Maruti is also working over a Hyundai Creta & KIA Seltos rival. The new mid-size SUV is being developed jointly with Toyota. Toyota Hyryder is the registered name for this upcoming car; Maruti calls it with the codename 'YFG'. It is expected to debut in India by the next month & it will be a hybrid as well.
