Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV Details
Maruti's upcoming Jimny has debuted in a 5-door avatar for India. Revising its iconic design of it, Maruti has ensured more interior space. However, the rest of the SUV remains unchanged. It gets a standard 4X4 drivetrain. Additionally, a manually locking rear differential is also provided as standard on it. It is using the reliable & peppy 1.5-lt K15B petrol engine on it. This naturally aspirated engine makes a peak power of 105 bhp & 134 Nm of torque. Also, it gets two gearbox options that include a 5-speed manual & a 4-speed automatic.
Furthermore, it is available in a total of 2 variant options. The Zeta & Aplha variants offer similar mechanicals but different features. The base Zeta gets a more rugged and basic look with steel rims. Meanwhile, it is also deprived of luxury features like fog lights, LED headlights, & bigger touchscreen infotainment. Contrary, the Alpha variant gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, LED headlights, etc.
As per our industry sources, Maruti is planning to launch Jimny in May'23. The wait is long but it seems that Maruti is waiting for Mahindra Thar 5-Door launch. The upcoming rival will also be offered in various specs and variants. Hence, keeping the pricing in control as per rivals is more understandable.
Verdict
The launch of Jimny in India will be very interesting because of the demand for lifestyle SUVs and their high sales. However, it will be interesting to see how Maruti places it against the Force Gurkha & Mahindra Thar. With the lack of a diesel engine and less power on paper; Jimny requires a staggering price tag to remain relevant.
