Jimny Thunder Edition Phased Out
Maruti Suzuki, the Indian automaker, produces a 5-door lifestyle off-roader called the Jimny exclusively in India. Unlike its 3-door counterpart, the Jimny hasn't been as successful in sales compared to the Thar. To boost its appeal, Maruti Suzuki decided to offer a flat discount of Rs. 2 lakhs on the Jimny. They also introduced the Thunder Edition accessories kit, valued at Rs. 25,000, which dealerships provided for free.
This Thunder Edition Kit enhances the Jimny's features with additions like roof rails, a front bumper garnish, a spare wheel cover mounted on the tailgate, ORVM garnish, a distinctive front skid plate, door visors, side door claddings, illuminated door sill guards, side fender garnishes, and mountain-themed decals. The Jimny, designed and manufactured in India for global markets, was launched in the country to compete with the Thar and challenge its popularity.

Inside, you'll discover a state-of-the-art 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the latest Baleno and Brezza models. This system seamlessly connects with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, offering wireless convenience. Additionally, it features Bluetooth, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a safety package including 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and more.
As for the new additions, the Jimny boast a stylish tan finished steering wheel cover, practical all-weather 3D mats, and distinctive black and tan leatherette seat upholstery. You'll also notice tan-coloured grips on the door and dashboard grab handles, adding a touch of elegance. It's important to note that there haven't been any functional upgrades, and the Jimny Thunder Edition has been discontinued.
As a result of this change, the starting price for the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is now Rs. 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom), which is the same as it was before the introduction of the Thunder Edition. Despite the discontinuation of the Thunder Edition, the Jimny remains an option for those interested in this compact SUV.
Verdict
It's disappointing to see Maruti Suzuki discontinue the Jimny Thunder Edition, especially considering the initial buzz created by its compelling discounts and added features. The 5-door off-roader, manufactured exclusively in India for global markets, failed to match the popularity of its competitors, leading to this decision.
