Maruti Swift: Why Is It Popular?
The Swift hatchback was launched in 2005 in India as a fun-to-drive car. Suzuki had no intention that family buyers would love it. However, it came as a surprise to Suzuki that the first-time car buyers opted for Swift for its funky design and better handling than rivals. With time, Suzuki has introduced various iterations of Swift in India. The recently launched model is the fourth generation of Swift, and it is more or less identical to its original design.
The evolution of design and features has made it so popular in India. Not to mention, it has always been a very frugal hatchback. The 1.2-litre petrol engine has undergone multiple changes, and, with time it has become even more fuel-efficient. The current Z-series engine has a claimed fuel economy of more than 25 kmpl, that too for the automatic variants. Therefore, Swift has become an automatic choice among new buyers.
The latest generation model is sold with a price range of Rs 6.49-9.59 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Its primary rivals are the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Tata Tiago.

Verdict
Maruti Swift remains one of the top-selling cars for the brand in India. However, the shift towards compact SUVs and the fact that Swift's top model lays in the same range as the Brezza's base version, a lot of buyers wouldn't be wanting to buy the loaded-spec of it. Tell us in the commnets, which car will you choose? A Swift ZXI+ or a Brezza LXI?
