The new 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno is expected to hit the Indian market in February this year and we are expecting a number of changes in this new facelift model. Baleno has continued to be the best selling premium hatchback since its launch and offers a feature-rich, comfortable, and spacious cabin. Despite having strong rivals like Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz, the Baleno continues to be on top. Here is what we can expect ahead of the new Maruti Baleno launch in India.
For starters, the 2022 Baleno will feature an updated front fascia with a wider front grille extending into the headlamps. The updated headlamps now feature a new L-shaped wraparound design and LED DRLs. The bumper now gets a wider central air intake and features a sharper design. On the sides, the car now features a new chrome lining around the glass and a new design. The alloy wheels too are expected to feature a refreshed design. Back on the tail, the Baleno might receive sleeker L-shaped tail lamps, a new bumper and an updated tailgate. Having said this, no mechanical changes will be made to the car.

The new Baleno is expected to get some major updates inside the cabin as well and will now feature an all-new dashboard with a layered design and aluminium inserts. A 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system will dominate the centre of the dashboard and is now placed above the AC vents that now sit horizontally. Likewise, the Baleno will feature a new climate control unit along with a new instrument console. We also expect the Indian carmaker to offer connected tech where the owners will be able to track the car using their mobile phones. Other important details and GPS features too will be on offer.
While Maruti Suzuki is not offering any diesel engine, we do expect it to retain the same 1.2L petrol engine with the next-gen Baleno. In the present iteration, this engine churns out 81 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque output. While this engine is available with a 5-speed MT as standard, the buyers can also opt for the optional CVT transmission. However, a slight modification may be done to the engine in favour of better performance and fuel efficiency. While the brand is yet to reveal any details about the upcoming Baleno, we do expect it to cost slightly more than the present version, which is currently priced from INR 5.99 lakh. (ex-showroom, Delhi).
