Talking about the powertrain, the mid-size SUV uses a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with an electric motor, churning out a combined power output of 115 bhp. Being a strong hybrid, the SUV excels in the fuel efficiency department, returning a claimed mileage of 27.97 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: From Rs. 17.99 lakh

The second name on the list of strong hybrid cars is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The mid-size SUV uses the same powertrain combination as the Hyryder, comprising of the 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with an electric motor, churning out an identical power output of 115 bhp. The range of Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid starts from Rs. 17.99 lakh and the top-end trim will set you back by Rs. 19.49 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). The claimed fuel efficiency figures stand at 27.97 kmpl.

Honda City e:HEV: For Rs. 19.89 lakh

Available in a single top-spec ZX trim with a sticker price of Rs. 19.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Honda City Hybrid is powered by a 1.5 litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine mated to two electric motors. The combined power output from the system stands at 126 bhp and 253 Nm of peak torque, delivering a staggering fuel economy of 26.5 kmpl. The Honda City e:HEV is a simple sedan solution to your strong hybrid needs.

Toyota Camry: For Rs. 45.25 lakh

Almost touching the half-crore mark, the Toyota Camry Hybrid retails for Rs. 45.25 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota sells the low-slung premium sedan in a single variant in India and it is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The unit is mated to a permanent magnet synchronous motor, churning out a combined power output of 218 bhp. Toyota Camry Hybrid claims to deliver 19.1 kmpl of fuel economy.

Verdict: It is quite clear from the list above that Strong Hybrid cars have not fully penetrated the Indian automotive industry. These vehicles are relatively new to the Indian market, especially in the affordable car segment.
