The Bombay-based home-grown manufacturer, Tata Motors, has an array of cars in its portfolio ranging from entry-level hatchback to premium sport utility vehicles (SUVs), but there is one segment in which Tata Motors is still lagging behind and that's the sedan department. Although Tata Motors has a sub-4-metre compact sedan called Tata Tigor, it has been overshadowed after the launch of refreshed Tiago and Tata Altroz as the Altroz is a premium offering and its prices clash with that of Tigor's. As per latest reports, to address this issue Tata Motors is developing a new premium sub-4-metre compact sedan that has been internally codenamed as Tata Goshaq.

The Indian automaker could soon add this sub-4-metre compact sedan in its portfolio and it will be based on the carmaker's ALFA platform. Tata Altroz was the first offering from Tata Motors to be based on the ALFA platform. This ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced) platform is very flexible and can accommodate hatchbacks, compact SUVs, sedans and even MPVs with multiple engines and gearbox options including electric and hybrid powertrains.
Even though we have very scarce details about Tata Goshaq at the moment. But sources report that this upcoming compact sedan from Tata Motors will bear resemblance to Tata Altroz and will have a sporty character with attractive design bits. It will be based on the carmaker's Impact 2.0 design theme philosophy and will bear sporty and tasteful design language. Some reports also claim that this upcoming sub-4metre compact sedan could borrow styling elements from the Tata Hornbill, Sierra concept, and Tata Tigor.
We expect that Tata Motors will offer a premium interior with the Goshaq just like other recent Tata Motors cars. It is highly probable that the compact sedan will get a floating touchscreen infotainment system both with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a part-digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, Harman-Kardon sound system, and maybe connected car features too.

Now talking about the launch timeline of Tata Goshaq, the compact sedan is currently in its initial stage of development and we expect it to take at least 12-18 months to shape into production avatar. That said, it is also not known yet that whether this car would be the next-generation Tigor or an altogether new premium sub-4-metre compact sedan that will replace the Tigor. We will bring you more updates about the Goshaq in the future but once launched, the Tata Goshaq will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, and Hyundai Aura.
