1 - Maruti Jimny 5-Door
Undoubtedly the most anticipated car launch of 2023. Maruti Jimny 5-Door is scheduled to debut in India on 11 January. At the Indian Auto Expo'23, Maruti's Jimny will break cover in an elongated avatar. However, Jimny is already on sale globally in a 3-Door version but the Indian version will be a 5-Door. Additionally, the Indian-spec Jimny will be unchanged largely. This means that its design and tech specs are likely to remain unchanged. We suspect that it will use the 1.5-lt, K15B petrol motor with a 4X4 Suzuki AWD system. Maruti will also offer a mix of manual & automatic transmission gearboxes on it. The anticipated price range of Jimny is Rs 9-13 lakh (ex-showroom).
2 - Maruti Flash/Blaze Crossover
The second model from Maruti for 2023 is the Blaeno Cross YTB. We broke the exclusive news that it will either be called Flash or Blaze when launched. Codenamed YTB, the upcoming crossover is based on the Baleno hatchback. However, Maruti has changed its mechanicals of it to make it a proper crossover. We expect that it will get a raised suspension, a 1.5-lt K15C petrol engine, & even an optional AWD system. However, its design will take aspiration from Grand Vitara and Maruti will place it in between Brezza & Grand Vitara. Hence, its expected pricing will be in the likes of Rs 8-13 lakh. This crossover will also debut at the Indian Auto Expo'23.
3 - Maruti-Toyota Hybrid MPV
Recently, Toyota Innova Hycross MPV has launched in India. It is a hybrid latest-gen Innova model that has attracted a lot of eyeballs in India with its debut. Meanwhile, Maruti & Toyota's joint venture means that Maruti will also launch a similar sibling of it. Our sources from the industry tell us that Maruti will essentially launch a rebadged version of the Hycross. However, its design and variant placement will differ for obvious reasons. Till now, no test mule of it has been spied but we suspect that a production-ready version will debut anytime by mid-2023. Speaking of its pricing, Maruti's iteration will be priced more or less similar to Toyota's model. Hence, a price tag of Rs 18-28 lakh is expected on it.
4 - WagonR EV
And with the world entering into 2023, the rumors of the WagonR EV launch come along. Yes, we're not joking. After years-long of testing the EV version of WagonR on roads in India, Maruti will launch it this year. However, there is still no official information regarding when & at what cost will it be launched. We've been spying on the WangonR EV on roads in production-ready form for a long time. Additionally, there are also rumors that Maruti uses the WagonR EV in its production plants to ferry people. Again, we're not claiming any of these rumors as true but we can speculate that it will be launched soon. If Maruti launches it in India, it will rival directly with Tata Tiago EV & might be priced somewhere near Rs 10 lakh tag.
Verdict
Maruti remains the number one car manufacturer in India in spite of the growing competition. With its new launches in 2023, the company will eventually shift focus to SUVs. No doubt in that the SUV segment is currently the most rewarding. However, the launch of a premium MPV and EV hatchback will expand Maruti's portfolio.
