Toyota Taisor - A Better Alternative To Fronx?
Toyota has officially commenced the deliveries of Taisor in India. The new crossover is based on the Maruti Fronx, sharing similar powertrain options. The new customers are posting images of deliveries on different social media platforms now.
Since Maruti Fronx came into the Indian market it has been in high demand. Moreover, the CNG variants of Fronx are preferred by a major amount of customers. However, the Toyota Taisor offers a similar product but in a different packaging. The design of Taisor is slightly different and it tried to match the current Toyota design language. On the inside, it is the Toyota badge on the steering wheel and different colour combos, that make it feel different than the Fronx.
Taisor comes equipped with the option of two petrol engines. The first is a 1.2L, naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol motor; that makes a peak power of 90 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. This engine is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox option. The second option is a CNG iteration of this engine. The 1.2L CNG Taisor makes a peak power of 77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
However, for enthusiasts, Taisor is also offered with a 1L, BoosterJet engine that makes 100 PS of max power & 148 Nm of peak torque. This engine offers the option of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The pricing of Taisor starts from Rs 7.74 lakh for the 1.2L NA petrol MT variant and goes up to Rs 13.04 lakh for the top-spec turbo-petrol AT variant. Its main competitors are Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Tata Nexon.

Verdict
The badge sharing between Toyota and Maruti is not new. With the Taisor, Toyota's main aim is to expand into the budget segment as much as possible. While Toyota do not intent on bringing its international models in India, the Maruti rebadged versions seems to be doing just fine for them.
