Volkswagen is the 11th largest carmaker in India and holds just 1.12% of the market share. While they have great products like the Polo and the Vento in the portfolio, sales have never really taken off. And while the all-new, or second-generation versions of these mass segment offerings are still months (or even years!) away, the company might end up focussing on premium products. For instance, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace India launch might take place within the next few months.
What is this version in the first place? Based on the Tiguan, as the name suggests, the Allspace model offers you extra space, enough to fit in a 3rd row. This takes the total seating to 7, which is a magical figure for prospective new car buyers in India. The current Tiguan is smaller (in length) than the Allspace and seats only 5. In contrast, its own sibling, the Skoda Kodiaq offers 3 rows!
Images of the test car have surfaced numerous times which makes most us believe that the Tiguan Allspace might well have its Indian launch later this year. The current Tiguan sells about 150-200 units per month and this one will surely improve on the number. Also, with a 7 seater on hand, VW will be able to take on rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, Honda CRV and the Ford Endeavour. Engine options could include both TSI (petrol) and TDI (diesel) motors with DSG gearbox being standard on both fuel types.
The current Tiguan starts at Rs 27.5 lakh (ex-showroom) which means its safe to assume a starting price of about Rs 30 lakh for the 7 seater version. Are you excited enough for Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace India launch? Let us know in the comment section below!
