Hyundai Kona EV Discontinued
The Kona EV was the most affordable Hyundai EV available in the Indian market. It faced competition with the most affordable MG ZS EV which made the Kona EV outdated as the ZS EV offers more features and a bigger battery pack option. The Kona EV was not a successful product for the Indian market and it faced some difficulties in getting customers in India.
If we talk about the specifications of the EV, it came with a 39.2 kWh battery pack producing 134 bhp of power and 395 Nm of peak torque. It was fitted with a single-axle electric motor and offers a range of 452 km. On the features front, the EV was equipped with 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, various drive modes, an electric sunroof, and shift-by-wire technology among other features.
Hyundai has recently updated the Kona EV for the Indian market but that version is not making its debut in India. The Kona EV in the international market boasts all-new designs and features.
Hyundai Creta EV Coming Soon
Hyundai has been testing the upcoming Creta EV for quite some time now and it is expected to make its debut by year-end or in early 2025. The Creta EV is expected to slot in as the brand's most affordable EV offering, directly competing with the recent Mahindra XUV400 and the well-established MG ZS EV. Interestingly, the timing of the discontinuation of the Kona Electric made us believe that this might be a move to make way for the Creta EV.
The upcoming Creta EV will boast a similar design to the ICE version of the Creta. It is expected to get some EV-specific changes such as a closed front grille, more aerodynamic alloy wheels, and more. If we talk about the specifications, it is expected to come with a 45-50 kWh battery pack giving it a range of 350-400 km. We can also anticipate a long-range variant with a bigger battery and a range of up to 500 km.

Verdict
Hyundai Kona EV struggled to get a good customer base in the Indian market. The brand kept on updating the model in the international market but the India specific version didn't received any update. This discontinuation will help the brand to slot the upcoming Creta EV better in the lineup.
