Suzuki Japan has been working on a new generation Alto for quite some time and it is scheduled for launch this year. But the New Gen Suzuki Alto brochure got leaked ahead.
The Alto has been one of the longest production badges in Japan since 1979. It has gone through eight-generation changes, and the ninth generation is right around the corner. Suzuki Japan has been working on it for quite some time, and the same is very close to its global debut. However, the brochure for the Suzuki Alto has been leaked online and going by the initial looks of it, the new 9th generation Alto is quite the radical departure from both the previous Alto and the India-bound Maruti Suzuki Alto.
The Suzuki Alto now boasts a small SUV-ish stance, with lots of rounded corners. The front bonnet has a tall, upright stance and is adorned by rounded headlamps at the front. The grille design is minimal, and some might even get the impression of an EV. However, there will be a hybridized version of the new model. The power specs of the Suzuki Alto are not clear, but its Indian counterpart, the Maruti Suzuki Alto will most likely be powered by a 796 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This unit produces 47 bhp and 69 Nm of torque. Besides, the boxier design and tallboy stance of the Japanese Alto might rightfully remind you of the India WagonR.

The interior of the 2022 Alto has been thoroughly upgraded too. For starters, there's a new 7" touchscreen infotainment screen that sits on a restyled dashboard. The air conditioning vents are redesigned and vertically lanted, along with manual controls. The steering wheel-mounted controls and a semi-digital instrument cluster contribute to the cabin's modernity. Further adding to the list will be safety features, like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensors.
Thankfully, this model will not make it into India. The Suzuki Alto caters to the Kei category aka ultra-mini car segment in Japan. The Indian-spec Maruti Suzuki Alto is speculated to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2022. Prices are likely to start from Rs. 3.5 lakh, and when launched here, it will compete against the likes of the Renault Kwid, Datsun Redi-Go, and its Maruti S-Presso.
