EVs are the future and affordable electric cars in particular. In India, Hybrid cars haven't marked flags of success as the manufacturer didn't show their full potential and the customers never really demanded them in the first place. The results were Smart-hybrids or micro-hybrids but the real alternate that most of us are looking forward to are pure electric cars. Here we tell you upcoming affordable electric cars which will get launched before the end of the year 2021. You should mark all of these in your wishlist if you are looking for affordable EVs.

Mahindra eKUV100 Electric

Mahindra showcased dozen-odd cars at the 2020 Auto Expo and unexpectedly, launched the eKUV100 which is India's first all-electric Micro SUV. Although the pricing which Mahindra announced was for commercial buyers only and it might also be available for personal buyers in future. Mahindra eKUV100 gets a 15.9 kWh battery with fast charging support, it can be charged to 80% in just one hour via a fast charger and once juiced up, it can deliver a range of 147 km on a single charge. eKUV100 also comes with connected car features like cabin pre-cooling, location tracking, driving diagnosis, among other features. It was launched at Rs 8.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it one of the most affordable electric cars in the country.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R Electric

Maruti Suzuki has been working on an electric incarnation of the WagonR hatchback for quite a lot of time now. Some months back, we shared with you the exclusive images of the Wagon-R EV which proved some features of the Wagon-R EV. It will get split headlamps, similar dashboard from Wagon-R featuring a touchscreen and we expect it to get connected car features as well; Manual brake regulation which can be activated by the gear (sort of) lever. Expect it to be priced under 10 lakhs and it will deliver a range of near 180 km with fast charging support as well. When launched, it will be the most affordable electric car in India.

Renault Kwid KZE

Renault India showcased two electric cars at the 2020 Auto. While the Zoe EV will take some time to hit the roads, we expect Kwid KZE to get launched first. The silhouette will remain more or less the same as the Kwid' but an electric motor will take place of the engine. Kwid KZE will get a 26.8 kWh battery pack mated to an electric motor which will churn out 44 Ps and 125 Nm of peak torque at zero rpm. The range is rated at 270 km by NEDC and it can be charged from 0-80% in just 30 minutes with the help of the fast charger. It will be priced under 10 lakhs when it gets launched sometime in next year and will lock horns with the Wagon R EV.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Motors showcased the Altroz EV at the 2020 Auto Expo and it gathered many eyeballs there. It will utilize Tata's new Ziptron technology which made its debut in the Nexon EV. The motor will be water and dust resistant and will offer a range of 300 km. Tata Motors will launch the Altroz EV early next year and we expect it to be priced at around 12-13 lakhs. It will get similar features we get in the regular Altroz. This will be the most affordable electric car in the premium hatchback domain.

GWM R1

Great Wall Motors which made their debut at the 2020 Auto Expo showcased R1 which is a small 4-door electric vehicle. It comes under the ORA brand but in India, it will be sold under the 'GWM' brand. GWM R1 gets a 33 kWh battery pack which gives a range of 300 km through a 33 kW electric motor. It features 8.0-inch touchscreen, manual AC, power windows at the front, electric parking brake etc. GWM will launch the R1 in 2021.

Mahindra Atom

While this is mainly for commercial use and was showcased at the Auto Expo, we strongly feel Mahindra should allow private buyers to pick this up as well. This little 3 seater (yes!) could be perfect for those who need a small car for urban use, running errands or even for self-employed businessmen who need to commute through congested markets or narrow lanes.

Mahindra atom

The Mahindra Atom's battery / electric set-up isn't confirmed yet but it will offer a range of 90km, top speed of 50km and can be juiced up in four hours. There is an optional a/c too and pricing will be under Rs 3 lakh. Brilliant!
