The Swedish carmaker, Volvo has confirmed the entry of its all-electric baby SUV, the XC40 Recharge in India by 2021. Sharing you the battery details first then it packs in a 78kWh unit which is placed right under the front seats. Don't worry as the space inside isn't hampered according to the Volvo. There are two electric motors placed on each axle which produces 402 bhp of power mutually and a peak torque of 660 Nm.

The top speed of the XC40 Recharge is limited to 180 kmph only just like any other Volvo car. The 0-100 km/h figure is even more impressive as it does the job in just 4.9 seconds. Phew, that is fast! The XC40 recharge is based on the same Compact Modular Architecture Platform.
What's new is that even though the batteries are placed under the front seats, the front trunk is now freed and makes way for more 31 litres of cargo space for longer trips if you are doing with family and friends. Also, the charging socket of the SUV is placed in the same output as the traditional fuel slot.
As for the driving range is concerned then according to Worldwide harmonised Light Vehicles Test procedure cycle or the WLTP, it gets 418 km in a single charge which is not bad considering the Indian market which is still developing in the EV department.
The SUV is equipped with fast charging capability and one can juice up the battery from zero to 80% in just 40 minutes with the 150kW DC fast charger. One will also get the 11kW charger which takes 10 hours to charge the battery from 0-100%.

By design, it pretty much looks like the conventional XC40 but with few changes to the alloy wheels and white finished grille at the front to differentiate the electric version. It continues with the same glossy black treatment on the roof and ORVMs.
On the inside, it will get a new and larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which gets over the air updates for google maps and google assistant. A dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, digital driver's display unit are some of the features which continue to enhance the electric SUV.
