The MG Windsor certainly stands out from what we are accustomed to seeing in the market today. Its oddball body shape makes it look like a bigger version of the Comet, and it certainly beats a lot of compact SUVs in the market when it comes to space. Not an enthusiast car by any chance, the Windsor is for someone who prioritizes comfort, features, and efficiency over everything else, but does not taking the wheel occasionally.

• What we admire in this car

  • It offers a good value proposition with Battery as a Service (BaaS) option.
  • A perfect blend of space, practicality, and comfort.
  • Loaded with a plethora of convenience features such as flush door handles, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, and automatic climate control, among other features.
  • 135-degree reclinable Aerolounge rear seats offer good comfort.
  • 604 litres of boot space is enough for a family trip.
  • Claimed range of 331 km and real-world range of around 250-275 km.
  • A large fixed panoramic glass roof.

• What could have been better

  • The styling of the Windsor may not appeal to everyone.
  • No physical buttons or toggle to control headlamps, ORVM adjustments, and some other functions.
  • A bigger battery pack with around 400 km of range would’ve been appreciated.
  • Missing features such as ADAS, rear wiper with washer, and some other features.
  • The large glass roof sometimes affects the air conditioning.
  • The rear suspension is a bit busy and the bad roads can be felt at the rear.
  • The rebadged Chinese EV badge may deter some customers.

MG Windsor EV Detailed Review

A body style that’s not too common on our roads. Quirky and yet attention-grabbing. 8.5

• The Windsor stands out in a sea of SUVs, and its eggshell-like body shape gives it a
  slight resemblance to cars like the Honda Jazz.
• The ‘stepped’ hood treatment is quite unique, and being an EV, the Windsor gets no
  grille, but modern design elements such as the headlamp treatment is present.
• Interestingly, the Windsor comes with rubber strips on its doors; an element that harks
  back to cars from an older era, which does not really match up to the otherwise clean
  look of the car.
• The rear of the Windsor is also clean and clutter-free, and it comes with full-length LED
  tail lamps, adding a sophisticated look and feel

The interiors follow a minimalist theme, but it blends sophistication, spaciousness and modern tech. 8

• The MG Windsor’s dashboard is clutter free, following the same clean, minimalist
  philosophy from its exteriors. Apart from the huge 15.6-inch touch screen, the 8.8-inch
  instrument cluster, and the physical A/C controls, you will not find too many buttons.
• Despite the all-black upholstery, the interiors do not feel claustrophobic, and that’s due to
  the large glasshouse area, and the fact that there is just so much space on offer. The
  golden inserts for contrast also help exude a premium feeling.
• Some interesting bits include the power window mounts, with a futuristic spherical
  element that mimics the look of a speaker, surrounded by a blue ambient lighting panel.
  However, the actual speakers are conventionally placed on the lower part of the door.
•  A reclining rear bench allows passengers to relax themselves completely and be fully
  comfortable.

Lots of tech on offer, but not everything should be based on the touch screen. 7

• The Windsor comes with a large 15.6-inch touch screen infotainment unit, which gets
  wireless smartphone connectivity, and you also get 80+ connected features, along with a
  JioSaavn suite, 80+ connected car features, and 30+ Hinglish voice commands.
• Even basic functions, such as using the high-beam or opening the roof sun-shade
  requires you to navigate through the screen, which can be quite frustrating especially if
  you’re on the move.
• A 256-colour ambient lighting palette, along with the 9-speaker Infinity sound system
  keeps things lively in the cabin.

Front-axle electric motor setup leans more towards comfort and efficiency. 8

• The Windsor comes with a sole electric motor placed on the front axle, producing
  134bhp and 200Nm of torque.
• The 38.2kWh battery pack is the only option for now, and it can be charged either via a
  3.3kW or a 7.2kW AC unit, or a 50kW DC fast charging setup. MG says the Windsor can
  cover 331km on a single charge.
• You can choose to either purchase the car directly, or under the ‘Battery As A Service’,
  programme, which brings the asking price of the directly down ot Rs 9.99 lakh
  (ex-showroom), with a nominal monthly fee for the battery usage

• The Windsor skips out on an ADAS suite, but it comes equipped with six airbags, cruise
  control, hill-start assist, hill descent control, emergency stop signal, seat belt reminders,
  auto hold, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlamps with follow-me function.
• Tyre pressure monitoring system is available from the base Excite variant, but it is the
  indirect type. The base Excite variant also misses out on a 360-degree camera and
  cornering lamps.
