This has led to the boom of SUVs in the used car market. With several options available, here is the list of best used SUVs available in the used car market under the budget of Rs 8 lakhs.
1) Mahindra Scorpio
One of India's favourite SUVs which has been a record-breaker since its launch, Scorpio manages to fetch a large buyer volume in the used car market.
With multiple variants on offer, an individual can easily find various examples ranging from the 2011-2016 model Scorpio under a budget of Rs 8 lakh.
A less driven 2013-2014 model can fetch up to Rs 6-7 lakh in South India whilst the same Scorpio can be sourced around Rs 5-6 lakh. This difference occurs due to RTO taxes at the time of registration of the new car.

One can find a clean example in both the petrol as well as diesel engine options under Rs 8 lakh across the country. Creta received a throughout update in 2020 & the older version of the car is readily available in the used car market.
The older Creta was available with a 1.6-L turbo-diesel meshed with a 6-speed manual & 6-speed automatic gearbox. Another option available was the 1.6-L naturally aspirated petrol churning out 122 BHP & 154 NM of power & torque figures. These figures make Creta a very popular & practical option for used SUV buyers.
3) Mahindra Bolero
The rugged SUV from Mahindra has become a testament to proven reliability across the country. Known for its rugged & abuse-friendly nature; Bolero is the first choice in rural & sub-urban areas of the country.
Although, the new Bolero costs around Rs 11 lakhs OTR but one can find a clean & near to new car with very less driven kilometres within the budget of Rs 8 lakhs.
Bolero is equipped with a 1.5-L turbo-diesel engine which produces 75 Ps of peak power & 210 NM of peak torque. This engine is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission.
4) Mahindra TUV300
TUV300 has not been a very popular car in competition but this has led to the availability of clean cars in the used car market.

Powered by the same 1.5-L diesel, turbo-diesel engine from Bolero SUV, TUV300 produces 100 BHP of peak power & 230 NM of peak torque. This power is combinedly put through the use of a 5-speed manual gearbox.
One fine example of this car from the 2018-200 model can easily be retained under the budget of Rs 8 lakhs.
5) Tata Safari (Old Model)
Tata Safari is undoubtedly one of the best SUVs that India has ever produced. Cult of Safari relies on the fact that even after being discontinued; Safari still finds a decent position in the used car market.
Before being discontinued, Safari was available in two different engine options i.e. 2.2 VVT DICOR turbo-diesel, 2.2 -L. CRDI turbo-diesel, 2.2-L VARICOR turbo-diesel engine. Along with these engine options, Tata Safari used a combination of gearboxes including a 5-speed manual (for DICOR & CRDI) and a 6-speed manual for the VARICOR engine. Last sold with 2.2-L turbo-diesel, Safari produced 138 PS of peak power & 320 Nm of peak torque.
A clean Safari ranging from 2017-2019 model can reach up to Rs 8 lakh pan India while the older DICOR model with fewer kilometres (60-70K kms driven) can be found in the likes of Rs 3-6 lakh throughout the country. 4X4 variants are rare to find but if one can get hands on it, Safari proves the value for money tag.
6) Ford Ecosport
Not an SUV to be precise, Ford Ecosport has managed to be a good rival to the hardcore 4X4 used SUVs. Even after Ford's exit from the Indian market, their cars find a decent spot in the used car market space.
A clean Ecosport ranging from the 2018-2020 model can be fetched up to Rs 8 lakh pan country. When on sale, Ecosport was available in two engine options which included a 1.5-L turbo-diesel producing 100 PS of power & 215 NM of torque along with a 1.5-L naturally aspirated 3-cylinder petrol producing 100 PS of power. The gearbox used was the reliable 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Not offered in 4X4, Ecosport proved its toughness with a water wading capacity of 550mm. Long-term ownership reviews have been positive about this butch compact SUV which is still considered by a large user base in the second-hand car market.
