India will be the first market where it will be launched and also exported from here. Not to let lose the grip, Thar is also coming in a 5-door avatar soon, as it has been spied on quite a few occasions already.
Let's look at the details of the timeline and bookings.
With Over 30,000 Bookings, Launch On June 7
Since the bookings opened at the Auto Expo 2023, the numbers kept going up. Now, according to the company, it has breached the 30,000 mark and continues. With the media drives and showcasing at showrooms going on, it is only adding to the anticipation of the enthusiasts.

Powertrain
Jimny comes equipped with only 1 engine option. A 1.5 liter K15B, naturally aspirated petrol mill that puts out 105 PS power with a peak torque of 134.2 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Maruti claims 16.94kpl fuel efficiency for the manual variant, while the automatic variant returns a mileage of 16.39kpl. However, real-world efficiency depends on your driving dynamics.
Pricing And Rivals
Although the official pricing is not yet out, the ballpark remains the 10-13 lakh mark. The off-road segment currently has the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha in this price range. Meanwhile, getting into premium pricing, there are other players like the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, etc.
VERDICT- While the Mahindra Thar and Fore Gurkha had this drawback of missing out on 2 rear doors, Maruti Jimny opened up this arena with a 5-door iteration and made it more acceptable among the families. Getting on the bandwagon, now a 5-door version is just around the corner as well. It would be interesting to see who keeps the throne when the frenzy begins.
