Most Affordable Turbo Manual Compact SUVs
Skoda Kylaq Classic: Rs 7.89 Lakh

The Kylaq is Skoda's newest entrant in the compact SUV segment, and in this price range, it is among the most affordable turbo-petrol compact SUVs out there, that too with a manual transmission. The base Classic variant does not come equipped with much, but it gets other things like LED headlights, an analogue instrument cluster, six airbags, traction control system, multi-collision braking, electronic differential lock, airbag deactivation, 3-point seatbelts for all five passengers, seatbelt reminder alerts, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and power-adjustable ORVMs.

The Kylaq carries over the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Kushaq and Slavia, producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission. The genes of the MQB-A0-IN plaform are very much visible in the Kylaq, as it is also quite driver-friendly and it delivers on thrills.

Nissan Magnite N-Connecta: Rs 7.94 Lakh

We did expect some significant changes to take place on the Nissan Magnite facelift last year. However, Nissan chose to stick to its tried-and-tested formula, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Magnite with the 5-speed manual transmission can be had from the N-Connecta variant onwards. This engine produces 98.63bhp and 160Nm of torque.
This variant comes equipped with a four-speaker-two-tweeter 3D sound system by Arkamys, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system, proximity lock/unlock, wireless smartphone connectivity, voice commands, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with switchable themes, rear A/C vents, rear USB type-C ports, a reverse parking camera, a front centre armrest, and an auto-dimming IRVM among many other things.
Mahindra XUV 3XO MX1: Rs 7.99 Lakh

The XUV 3XO replaced the XUV 300 sometime last year, with some serious changes to the interiors and features list. The older 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine has been retained, and it is available on the base MX1 variant. Paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, this powertrain puts out 109bhp and 200Nm of torque.
The MX1 variant does not pack much in terms of features, but you do receive power windows for all four doors, along with power-adjustable ORVMs, type-C USB ports in the front and rear, reverse parking sensors, rear A/C vents, adjustable rear headrests, six airbags and a seat belt reminder among other things. The 3XO has always been a great compact SUV from the driver's perspective, and being a Mahindra, it can take on some rutted roads quite well too.
Tata Nexon Smart+ 1.2: Rs 8.89 Lakh

The Nexon is on the slightly higher side of things, and we are discussing the base Smart+ 1.2 variant, which comes with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. This unit produces 86.9bhp and 170Nm of torque. The acceleration is decent, and like most Tatas, the Nexon's ride quality is also impressive, making it suitable for long-distance routes.
In terms of features, this variant of the Nexon packs in things like power-adjustable ORVMs, a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a two-speaker sound system, follow-me headlamps, power windows for all doors, three driving modes, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and steering-mounted controls among other things.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta+: Rs 9.73 Lakh

The Fronx is based on the Baleno, and it also saw the return of a turbo-petrol engine on a Maruti Suzuki car. The Delta+ variant is the one you should be looking at if you are interested in getting a manual turbo-petrol compact SUV. It gets the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine, producing 98.6bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. These figures may sound slightly underwhelming on paper, but out in the real world, the Fronx packs in more than enough power for daily usage, unless you're pushing the car really hard.
The Delta+ variant packs in plenty of kit, such as a smaller 7-inch infotainment touch screen, rear parking sensors, wireless smartphone connectivity, a four-speaker sound system, auto-fold ORVMs, power windows for all four doors, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, hill-hold assist, and OTA updates among many things.
Hyundai Venue Executive: Rs 9.99 Lakh

The Venue has been among Hyundai's most successful vehicles over the years, apart from the Creta. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is available from the Executive variant onwards, and this engine is available with a 6-speed manual transmission. This setup produces 118.3bhp and 172Nm of torque.
In terms of features, the Executive variant comes with six airbags, a day/night IRVM, automatic headlamps with follow-me function, key fob, an 8-inch infotainment touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear A/C vents, cruise control, and voice assist among other things.
Verdict
All these compact SUVs are the base variants of their turbo-petrol versions. Even in a world where automatics are threatening to take over, the charm and thrill of a manual is something many people will still vouch for, and for those of you who do, check out these cars and take a proper test drive before choosing.
