Their popularity has grown so much that in India, people are now buying only two colors - White and Black; the rest, you cannot even see at dealerships. The reason for such a splurge in this paint option is Tata Motors; they were the first to launch the #Dark Edition on their SUVs, Safari and Harrier, and now even their CNG cars are coming with it. So, if you too are interested in them and want to see which ones are available under Rs 20 lakh, then you're at the right place. Hyundai Exter Knight Edition

Exter is a micro-SUV, based on the Hyundai i10 NIOS, and shares its 1.2L Na Kappa engine. This SUV is also available with a dual-CNG option, which has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg. Plus, it also comes with the Knight Edition, a special all-black edition that also makes use of red inserts, which elevate its overall aesthetics. Hyundai Venue Knight Edition

Venue Knight Edition was launched in 2023, and it became an instant hit. The all-black body with brass color highlights makes it look richer than the standard model. Now, the Knight Edition is available with 1.2L and 1.0L turbo petrol engines, but not with diesel, and it starts at Rs 10.34 lakh for the S(O) 5-MT. Its top variant costs Rs 13.57 lakh for the SX(O) Dual Tone Knight with the 1.0L 7-DCT engine. Talking about features, it's loaded and works stupendously.
Tata Nexon - #Dark Edition

Tata Nexon, one of India's favourite SUVs, is available in 13 variants of the Dark Edition and starts at Rs 11.69 lakh ex-showroom. With an all-black body color, grille area, roof rails, and black alloy wheels, the macho factor of this SUV is elevated to the next level. To add more, it is available with both petrol and diesel engines, along with multiple transmission options. Additionally, even its CNG version comes with a Dark Edition, and it is India's first CNG vehicle to get a turbocharged petrol engine.
MG Astor Blackstorm

MG Astor in 2024 received a new all-black exterior as well as interior with a new moniker, 'Blackstorm.' This is MG's attempt to make the Astor more bold and striking. Launched with an introductory price of Rs 13.45 lakh (ex-showroom), it currently starts at Rs 13.77 lakh, and the second variant with a CVT gearbox costs Rs 14.80 lakh. Talking about features, it gets a 10-inch infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, JBL speakers, and Level 2 ADAS. Also, the seats are different here compared to the standard model, featuring tuxedo black upholstery with red stitching and 'Black Storm' written on the front headrests.
Hyundai Creta Knight Edition

The Hyundai Creta Knight Edition, launched in September 2024, starts at Rs 14.62 lakh for the S(O) Knight variant, with the most expensive model priced at Rs 20.41 lakh for the SX(O) DT Knight, featuring a 1.5L diesel engine. Notably, the 1.5L turbo-petrol engine is not available with this edition. Hyundai has replaced all chrome elements with black accents. Inside, the cabin is primarily black, with brass-colored elements on the AC vents, gear lever, and steering switches, adding a touch of premium appeal.
Honda Elevate Black Edition

Finally, Honda's only SUV joins the race with the launch of the Black Edition, based on the ZX variant. There are two versions of this edition: the Black and Signature editions. As expected, both versions are finished in pitch black, both inside and out. Regarding pricing, the Black Edition starts at Rs 15.51 lakh ex-showroom for the 6-speed manual, and Rs 16.73 lakh ex-showroom for the CVT. The Signature Edition is even more expensive, priced at Rs 15.73 lakh for the 6-MT and Rs 16.93 lakh for the CVT.
Tata Harrier #Dark Edition

The Harrier Dark Edition starts at Rs 19.14 lakh ex-showroom for the 6-MT variant, while the 6AT variant is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh. By far the most expensive SUV on this list, the range-topping variants are priced at Rs 24.74 lakh (ex-showroom), so let's not discuss those. The Tata Harrier Dark Edition comes with features like R17 black alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, push-start button, multi-drive modes, rain-sensing wipers, and a 10-inch infotainment screen. The engine remains the same as before, with the 2.0L Kryotec engine.
Mahindra Scorpio N Carbon Edition

The Mahindra Scorpio N is the latest SUV to join the Black Edition group, with its starting price set at Rs 19.19 lakh for the petrol-engine Z8 variant. This edition is based on the top-spec Z8 and Z8 L variants. Additionally, the cheapest variant does not offer the option of an automatic gearbox, only a 6-MT. The most expensive model of the Scorpio N Carbon Edition is priced at Rs 24.89 lakh.
Tata Safari #Dark Edition

The last SUV on the list, and the biggest one too, is the Safari Dark Edition. The cheapest variant is the Pure + S with a 6-speed manual gearbox, priced at Rs 19.64 lakh. This is the only variant of the Safari Dark Edition we can include here. That said, even this variant comes with several features, such as a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen from Harman, a panoramic sunroof, push-button start, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and multi-drive modes.

Verdict
So, these are the 8 SUVs under Rs 20 lakh that come with Dark/Black Editions in India. The Safari and Harrier fall outside our price bracket, as these are ex-showroom prices, and getting them on-road would cost an additional 2 to 3 lakh in taxes. However, we've still included them here. Out of all of these, the Honda Elevate and Mahindra Scorpio N are the latest SUVs, having received their Black Edition in Jan/Feb 2025, so one shouldn't miss these.
